Bygone Era

May 6th, 2006

TGC has been extremely busy recently. Don’t know what gets put in the water around June - August of each year but it seems to produce a rash of birthdays between March - May which means lots of Birthday cakes to be made, throw in the mix Easter and Mother’s Day and it’s a very busy time for cake decorators and caterers.

In attempting to be as authentic as possible with the Edwardian Tea Parties, TGC has been researching on how they baked back in those times and I can’t say I’d want to be working in the kitchen back then. One recipe for Queen’s Cake has 18 eggs in it and is to be beaten for one hour (that’s just the cake batter) No-wonder those cooks had such big arms and were a force to be reckoned with, save hundreds of dollars on gym membership and take up Victorian cake baking methods instead!

I also discovered why the Titanic REALLY sank - their last meal consisted of 18 courses!!!!!! I’m sure if they had all been given just a sandwich and a biscuit it would have improved their chances of staying afloat. But like I said before, eating was more of an occassion back then rather than the necessity it is these days.

If anyone out there has a Bowler or Top hat they would like to part with for a price, can you let me know by sending me a reply to this post please. I’m finding that quite often Gentleman attend these Tea Parties with their wives and partners and don’t paticularly want to wear our large ladies Edwardian Tea Hats!

Some people have been asking me where these Tea Parties are held, the answer is that they are mobile so WE come to YOU. As much as possible your room is set up to resemble an Edwardian parlour and dress-ups are provided along with gifts and offers for the host/ess and guests.

Well, there are chocolates to be made and cakes to deliver so, Ta ta for now. : )
